JAMES CUNNINGHAM

James Cunningham is a Senior Advisor within BNY Mellon’s Public Policy & Government Affairs
department. His areas of responsibility include European regulatory and self-regulatory initiatives
relating to capital markets, market infrastructure, and post-trade services.
In recent years, he has been heavily involved in work relating to the European Union’s Capital
Markets Union project, as well as to the implementation of the Central Securities Depositories
Regulation (CSDR) and of Shareholder Rights’ Directive 2 (SRD2).
He is active in regulatory contact groups and is a member of the European Central Bank’s
Advisory Group on Market Infrastructures for Securities and Collateral (AMI-SeCo), and of the
Consultative Working Group of the ESMA Post Trading Standing Committee.
He has been active for many years in initiatives relating to market practice harmonisation,
notably with respect to corporate actions processing and general meetings. He is a member of
the AMI-SeCo Harmonisation Steering Group and is currently co-chair of the AMI-SeCo
Corporate Events Group. From 2014 to 2020, he was chair of the T2S Corporate Actions Sub
Group (CASG).
He is active in many industry association working groups, including the AGC European Issues
Committee and the EBF Post Trade Working Group. He currently co-chairs the AFME Post
Trade Executive Committee, and was until recently chair of the AFME Capital Markets Union
Steering Committee.
